How Long Does a Tradeline Take to Post to Your Credit Report?
After you’re added to a tradeline, the most common question is: when will I see it? The answer depends on the card’s reporting cycle.
How reporting works
Credit card issuers report account information to the credit bureaus about once a month, usually around the card’s statement closing date. When you’re added as an authorized user, you’ll show up on your report after the issuer’s next report, which typically takes a few weeks.
Typical timeline
- You’re added as an authorized user on the card.
- The statement closes, and the issuer reports the account, now including you.
- The bureaus update your report, often within a few days of receiving the data.
Depending on where you fall in the cycle, that’s usually anywhere from about two to six weeks.
How to check that it posted
- Pull your reports at AnnualCreditReport.com (free weekly).
- Look for the account in your tradelines, listed with an “authorized user” designation.
- Check all three bureaus. Most major issuers report to all three, but timing can differ by a few days.
